Monster.com, the leading global online career and recruitment resource

Nu is het:

Monster.com, the leading job matching engine

Monster | Darko DejanovicMonster announced yesterday that in 2010 they will have a Keep America Working Tour again. In 2009 Monster created a lot of goodwill with this tour.

But the press announcement contained a very special news fact for me; Monster has a new profile. Till now it was:

Monster.com, the leading global online career and recruitment resource

Now it is:

Monster.com, the leading job matching engine

Dejanovic is tenslotte ‘slechts’ tweede echelon.

That’s special. From resource to engine. From content to machine. And with this: from business-driven to technology-driven. Or, in other words, a lot is happening and little is being said.

I already found it strange that with the introduction of 6Sense, Darko Dejanovic was playing such a prominent role. After all he’s CIO, no CEO. Sure, he also has the role of Head of Product, but with an introduction of a fundamental renewal of Monster it should be Sal Iannuzzi (CEO Monster) who’s talking to the world. After all Dejanovic “is only” second ranking.

But no, Dejanovic did the talking. Now this CIO is, from a media perspective, as cuddly as a hungry hyena. So why did Monster choose such a scary presenter to introduce the most prominent change of direction since their conception?

Likely answer: Monster has been taken over by wiz kids. That’s the sole conclusion. And Dejanovic is the general. This is probably also the reason why Monster nowadays is mainly talking about features and rarely about advantages.

Monster is completely betting on their new technology with this. Super scary for a company of their dimensions. And life endangering. Technology is an enabler, sometimes a very strong enabler. But technology alone will never make the difference. Especially not for a media company. Oh no, nowadays it’s a technology company: the leading job matching engine.

I am very curious how this is going to develop in the upcoming future.
