Europa heeft weer eens een deadline gemist:
The European Commission will miss an already delayed deadline to publish guidelines on high-risk AI systems under the EU’s AI Act […].
It’s already the second delay for the guidelines, with the AI Act setting 2 February 2026 as the legal deadline for the Commission to produce the document.
On 2 February, a Commission spokesperson told […] that the EU’s executive was still busy integrating “significant feedback” – saying the goal was to publish draft guidelines in February for another round of stakeholder input. But this will now apparently not happen.
The guidelines are “currently subject to a revised timeline” […] “Work is ongoing, and the publication is now expected at a later date to ensure we incorporate as much feedback as possible while respecting the Commission’s internal procedures.”
It’s just the latest in a string of delays engulfing the AI Act, from late publication of the code of practice on general-purpose AI to key standards which are still MIA.
Many EU countries have also still not formally designated the national bodies in charge of enforcing the AI Act, making it difficult for them to criticise the Commission’s tardiness
In theory, the deadline for the rules kicking in is looming in August this year, but the Commission’s omnibus proposal pitched moving them back by more than a year.
